Korean Beauty Regime

The Korean beauty regime is truly unique and has given the Koreans the most beautiful clear skin in the world.  It does involve many steps but it is well worth the effort.  Who does not want more healthy, radiant skin? In this article, the Korean beauty regime will be broken down for better understanding for those women who have never heard of it before.

The Korean beauty regime involves many steps, it also uses multiple products.  It is a routine that is done morning and night and for best results you need to stick to it.  The beauty regime steps are:

  • Double Cleanse
  • Exfoliate
  • Tone
  • Essence
  • Serum
  • Sheet Mask or face mask
  • Moisturise
  • Sunscreen

Cleanse

Korean women do a double cleanse using two types of cleaners to get the best results. They use both an oil-based cleanser and a water-based cleanser. If you can remember some science from school, water and oil do not mix. Korean women seem to understand that quite well as they normally start cleansing with an oil-based cleanser to remove impurities such as SPF and other oil-based makeup.     They then use a water-based makeup to remove any residue that might be left behind by the oil-based cleanser. The secret here is to find a gentle cleanser that will not dry out your skin.

Exfoliate

Exfoliators are used to remove dead cells and unclog skin pores to ensure better absorption of other skin care products. Koreans mostly use gommage peels with a mix of fruits and other botanical extracts for exfoliating.  Find an exfoliator that targets your skin concern and that is gentle and does not irritate your skin. Do not exfoliate more than twice a week.

Toners

This is the step that most western women ignore but not Koreans as they understand the importance of keeping your skin hydrated. After the intense cleansing, you do not want you skin to dry out or get dehydrated. Toning helps to balance your skin and are essential in your Korean beauty regime as they balance the PH levels of the skin. Also, toners help the skin to absorb the moisturizers or any other skin products that you will apply after.

Essences

So, this is the most important part of the routine which is highly credited to the Korean culture. Most people are familiar with essences. Essences are a hybrid of a serum and toners. However, they are more like toners than serums due to their very watery nature. Essences moisturize the skin giving it a youthful look. They also help the skin absorb serums better.  They are wonderful and a simple step to add into your beauty regime.

Serums and Ampoules

Ever wondered why most Koreans have blemish free skin? Well, the secret is serums and ampoules. Serums and ampoules comprise of a high number of concentrated ingredients that help to fight skin problems such as wrinkles, pigmentation, dehydration, loss of skin firmness and fine lines. Depending on your skin condition, you can customize your beauty regime by adding a serum or ampoule in either the night or morning routine that best fits your needs. These two products are what you need when your skin desperately needs help.

Sheet Mask

This is one of the most fun Korean beauty products on the market. A sheet mask is made of a cloth that is saturated with various ingredients to treat a specific skin concern. Sheet masks are perfect for any skin type as there are literally hundreds and hundreds to choose from. Regardless of your skin type, age, skin issues you want to fix, there will be a sheet mask for you.  Sheet masks are cheap and great for skin care since they hydrate the skin deeply and also treat the specific skin concerns.

Moisturizers

The eye area is the most dehydrated part of the body since the skin around there is thin and thus no sebaceous glands to produce natural skin oil. Ensure the skin around your eyes is hydrated by applying an eye cream that will help nourish, protect, de-puff and also brighten. Look for a good moisturizer that fits your skin type. A perfect moisturizer for your skin will ensure that all the ingredients you apply on your skin are absorbed rather than just evaporating away. Moisturizers also lock in the skin’s moisture which ensures that your skin is hydrated all day long. Hydrated skin is the key to a young-looking face.

Sunscreens

Koreans are very enthusiastic about sunscreens. A sunscreen should not be used during summer seasons only. You need to apply sunscreen at the end of your daily skin care routine to protect you from the UV rays that might cause your skin to age prematurely and contribute to fine lines and wrinkles.

The Korean beauty regime also advises using a sleeping mask. This is slightly heavier cream that you apply to your face before you go to bed and it works while you sleep.  Korean sleeping masks are more than just a night cream.  They are intensely hydrating and contain concentrated active ingreients formulated to boost the rejuvenation process.

The Korean beauty regime should be carried out morning and night for the best results to be seen. BUT if your skin care routine was non-existent or just involved cleansing and putting on a face cream you will still greatly benefit from adding just 1, 2 or 3 steps into your routine.  Even by adding in a twice weekly exfoliation and nightly sleeping mask your skin will greatly improve.

A little bit of effort at any age, can make a very visible improvement to your skin.
